Life, Love & Fluffy Bunnies

Best of 2011

Okay! So last year was my first ever attempt to write a best-of list. I quite liked doing it so I thought I’d go ahead and do one for this year too!

Hang on tight, since we’re going to visit the best of 2011!

Best of 2011

Best Breakfast

A very tough one, since we visited so many places, but I’m going to say my favourite breakfast was at the Tea Gardens in Watsons’ Bay. I had this incredible fruit salad and yoghurt plate which was just amazing, with the first fresh peach I’d had this year. It was epic.

Best Craftiness:

This is a tough one too. I did quite a bit of craft this year. I made curtains. I upcycled a business shirt. I made several scarves and started two blankets. But in terms of persistence, complicatedness and end result, I’d have to go with this stunning pink and cream cashmere scarf. It’s so soft that I’d have to block it every time I wore it to make it look like this, but gosh, it turned out stunning:

Then again, the Burridge Lake afghan I started knitting is looking pretty epic so far, although maybe it doesn’t count since it’s not entirely done yet?

Best movie

Okay, it has to be Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 2.

It was awesome, and I cried just about all the way through. I loved it, and I’m so sad the franchise is over, that there won’t be any new Harry Potter movies. I guess in that way it’s the end of an era… it sounds ridiculous but I’ve been going to see every new harry potter movie once a year since 2001. A whole decade. I’ve loved every single one, and loved the books too. It was a wonderful end, I guess.

Best album

Definitely an easy one. I’m going to go with Torches, the Foster the People Album. Every song on it rocks.

I can and do listen to the whole thing over and over again without feeling tired of it. I’m so sad their show sold out, I don’t want to see them as a side show at Big Day Out. Ah well, maybe next time.

Best Outfit

No real stand outs for me this year… I liked this one from mum’s birthday slash Father’s Day cruise dinner though:

Or possibly this outfit I wore to work in February:

Best Purchase

I’m going to go with my Miu Miu wallet.

Runner up would be my Coach handbag. Love it.

Best Show

I saw a lot of shows this year! I saw Michael Buble, Katie Perry, Friendly Fires… the best without a doubt though, were The Script. Even after their show I still could have listened to more. I was singing their songs all the way home.

Best Milestone

Okay, this was tough to choose. Quite frankly I didn’t really have any particular milestones this year, but I’m going to go with changing my job in Feb. I think leaving it was the best thing I did all year, both financially and emotionally.

Best Holiday

I only went on two little trips this year — a cruise in January, and a camping trip to Cockatoo Island with my sister in March. My sister got super sea sick on the cruise, but even so, it was a pretty amazing trip. Champagne bay in Vanuatu was probably my favourite place we went to.

I have to say though, I used the trip to edit my first novel, and I worked HARD on that holiday! (In between cocktails of course!)

Best New Discovery

Oh, definitely North and South. I am utterly obsessed with Mr. Thornton. The way he looks at Margaret, the way he looks so MEAN but is full of marshmallow-y sweetness? *DIES* and quite possibly the most romantic cinematographic kiss in the history of time at the end. My god. Where do I find a Mr. Thornton who will look at me just like that?

Best Virginity

Oooh another super tough one. After the lame number of ‘Virginity’ posts last year, I realised I had to up my game. I did loads of new things this year. I ate lotus roots, I climbed the Harbour Bridge, I made my first pumpkin pie. I carved my first pumpkin too!

But by far the most challenging, and the most exhausting was competing in National Novel Writing Month. Successfully getting through 50 000 words in 30 days was not something I ever thought I’d manage, and finishing it felt so amazing. I really wore myself out on it, to be honest!

Best Willum Moment

Definitely when he drank out of a water glass that my sister had left on the floor! I think my love for this little guy increases every year. I adore him.

So that’s it. 2011 in review. The very best of it. I think it was a tough one for me, full of challenges, surprises and disappointments, and absolutely attrocious weather. But I got through it, we got through it, and now we’re moving towards 2012. Let’s hope it brings us even more amazing and special memories to share.

  1. Yay to finishing NaNoWriMo!!! I tried, but failed. :(

    • Thanks! And don’t worry — it’s a LOT of words, afterall! I think it’s the quality of the words you DO write, not wordcount that really matters, at the end of the day… if I was to cut out all the junk I wrote that I kept in for wordcount, I’d probably have less than 25k left :)
